What is the RO4 aquarium filter used for?

The AQUAVITA RO4 model was designed for water treatment in aquarium applications, especially where fully demineralized water is required. The set is primarily intended for marine and freshwater aquariums, helping to obtain soft water with a low pH and an almost zero content of nitrogen compounds.

This is a solution for users looking for a stable and effective water filtration system based on classic 10-inch housings and proven AQUAVITA BPA FREE cartridges. Thanks to this design, the water filter offers higher flow rates compared to inline filters.

Filtration stages

1. AQUAVITA FCPS20 sediment filter

High-quality cartridge with a filtration accuracy of 20 microns. At this stage, mechanical contaminants present in tap water are removed, such as sand, silt, and rust, with particle sizes up to 20 µm.

Polypropylene nonwoven cartridges are characterized by very good contaminant absorption. Their structure resembles the consistency of foam, with a large number of open-cell microbubbles on the surface, which promotes effective dirt retention.

The filter has certifications: PZH, TUV, as well as BPA FREE and PHALATE FREE properties.

2. AQUAVITA FCCBL10 sintered activated carbon filter

This stage is essential to protect the osmotic membrane. The cartridge removes 98% to 99% of free chlorine, chlorinated solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbons from the water, while also improving the taste and smell of the water.

It also reduces up to 85% of chlorinated pesticides, polycyclic compounds, phenol, benzene, and organic substances. The carbon block produces less dust than granular carbon, which translates into more stable system operation.

The filter has certifications: PZH, TUV, as well as BPA FREE and PHALATE FREE.

3. MB400 Purolite resin

Ready-to-use, homogeneous mixture of anion exchange and cation exchange resin by Purolite, intended for water demineralization and removal of trace contaminants. MB400 is used in household and industrial systems for polishing osmosis water.

The resin canister is openable, allowing it to be refilled. The cartridge fits 10-inch housings, making later operation and media replenishment convenient and practical.

4. AC-OM-200 osmotic membrane

The semi-permeable osmotic membrane consists of many layers wound around a perforated core located inside the membrane. Contaminated water is forced under pressure onto the membrane surface, where water molecules pass through microscopic pores.

Contaminants are separated and discharged to the drain, while perfectly purified water passes through the openings to the central core and flows out of the membrane under pressure.

The membrane retains 96-99% of dissolved organic and inorganic contaminants, heavy metals, and radioactive elements with a size of 0.01 micron.

Operation and practical benefits

The combination of mechanical filtration, activated carbon, osmotic membrane, and demineralization with MB400 resin makes it possible to obtain water suitable wherever very high purity is required. Such a setup works well in aquaristics because it makes it easier to prepare a base for further mineralization or for adjusting water parameters to the needs of the tank.
