What does cloudy water mean in practice?
Turbidity that disappears from the bottom of the vessel to the top usually comes from air, and falling sediment indicates suspended solids.
When does it matter?
High turbidity worsens the appearance of water, burdens filters and may reduce the effectiveness of UV disinfection.

Turbidity must be determined and the type of particles determined; sedimentation, mechanical filtration or an automatic washed bed are used.
