What does TDS mean in practice?
Field meters most often estimate TDS from conductivity using a fixed coefficient that does not accurately reflect each ionic composition.
When does it matter?
Two waters with similar TDS may contain completely different salts, so the result does not determine hardness or safety.

TDS is used to observe the trend and operation of the RO, and the composition and compatibility of water are assessed by analyzing individual parameters.
