calcite is crystalline calcium carbonate that dissolves in acidic water, increasing pH, alkalinity and calcium hardness.

What does calcite mean in practice?

CaCO3 dissolves self-regulating mainly in undersaturated water, raising calcium and consuming free CO2.

When does it matter?

At high acidity, the calcite itself may dissolve too quickly or fail to reach the required pH at high flow.

Which solutions are related to it?

The layer height and EBCT are selected, the medium is periodically added and the pH and hardness behind the filter are controlled.
