Description
The Amberlite MB20 resin is used to obtain water with high chemical purity. The properties of the resin are achieved by mixing two ion exchange resins - strongly acidic cation and strongly basic anion.
Typical applications of MB20 resin:
- water for laboratory purposes
- demineralized water for medical / dental equipment
- DEMI water for marine aquaristics
- demineralization of water used for window washing (no streaks / smudges)
- reduction of water conductivity - the resin allows for the production of water with a conductivity of 0 uS or close to 0 uS depending on the input water parameters and flow rate
How does the water demineralization process work?
In the filtration column, there is a mixed cation resin (in hydrogen form H+) with an anion resin (in hydroxyl form (OH-). Water in contact with the cation resin releases all cations, which are exchanged for hydrogen ions. Flowing through the anion resin, all negatively charged ions are exchanged for hydroxyl ions. Hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions combine to form demineralized water, whose chemical formula is close to H²O.
The mixed resin MB20 (Amberlite MB20), produced by DOW (acquisition of Rohm and Haas shares in 2010). The MB20 resin is equivalent to the MB400 resin produced by Purolite.
