Description

Amberlite MB20 is a mixed-bed ion exchange resin designed for effective demineralization and producing water with very high chemical purity. It is suitable wherever low conductivity and stable water quality matter: in laboratories, medical and dental devices, marine aquariums, and for streak-free surface cleaning. It is a practical solution for applications such as water treatment, supplementing systems based on a water filter, as well as the final stage in installations where an reverse osmosis system or an reverse osmosis filter is used.

Price applies to a 1 liter package.

What is Amberlite MB20 resin used for?

Amberlite MB20 resin is used to obtain water with high chemical purity. Its operation is based on a combination of two ion exchange resins: a strong acid cation resin and a strong base anion resin. This mixture enables effective removal of ions from water, i.e. demineralization.

In practice, this means the possibility of preparing DEMI water for applications requiring a reduced amount of dissolved ions and lower conductivity. Depending on the incoming water parameters and the flow rate, the resin can make it possible to obtain water with conductivity of 0 uS or close to 0 uS.

Typical applications of MB20 resin

  • water for laboratory use
  • demineralized water for medical / dental equipment
  • DEMI water for marine aquariums
  • demineralization of water used for window cleaning (no streaks / smears)
  • reducing water conductivity - the resin allows obtaining water with conductivity of 0 uS or close to 0 uS depending on the incoming water parameters and flow rate

How does the water demineralization process work?

In the filtration column, there is a mixed cation resin in the H+ hydrogen form and an anion resin in the OH- hydroxyl form. As water flows through the bed, ion exchange takes place, removing both cations and anions present in the water.

When water comes into contact with the cation resin, all cations are released and replaced by hydrogen ions. Then, as it passes through the anion resin, all negatively charged ions are exchanged for hydroxyl ions. Hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions combine to form demineralized water whose chemical composition is close to H2O.

Why is a mixed bed effective?

Combining cation and anion resin in one bed makes it possible to carry out water demineralization efficiently and conveniently. This solution is valued wherever very good final water quality is required and conductivity must be reduced to the lowest possible level.

Amberlite MB20 can be used as a standalone medium in a filtration column or as an element of final water polishing in a more advanced water filtration system, for example downstream of systems such as reverse osmosis. As a result, it is a good complement to installations in which an osmosis filter or reverse osmosis system is responsible for the primary separation of contaminants, while the ion exchange bed is responsible for the final reduction of conductivity.

To achieve the best results, the operating conditions of the bed should be matched to the quality of the feed water and the required throughput. Final conductivity is affected mainly by the incoming water parameters and the flow rate through the filtration column.

Additional product information

Amberlite MB20 is a mixed bed also designated as Amberlite MB20. It is associated with the DOW brand, after the acquisition of Rohm and Haas shares in 2010. MB20 resin is equivalent to Purolite's MB400 resin.

FAQ

What is Amberlite MB20 used for?

Amberlite MB20 is used for water demineralization and obtaining water with high chemical purity. It is used, among others, for laboratory water, DEMI water for medical and dental devices, marine aquariums, and for cleaning windows without streaks or smears.

How does MB20 ion exchange bed work?

The bed contains two types of resins: a strong acid cation resin and a strong base anion resin. Cations present in the water are exchanged for H+ ions, and anions for OH- ions. As a result, H+ and OH- ions combine to form demineralized water.

Can Amberlite MB20 produce water with zero conductivity?

The resin can produce water with conductivity of 0 uS or close to 0 uS. The final result depends on the quality of the incoming water and the flow rate through the bed.

Where can water produced on MB20 resin be used?

Typical applications include laboratory use, medical and dental equipment, marine aquariums, and washing windows and other surfaces where no streaks or stains should remain after drying.

Is MB20 suitable as a supplement to a reverse osmosis system?

Yes, the resin can work as a final water polishing stage in installations where a reverse osmosis filter, osmosis filter, or a complete reverse osmosis system is used. It helps further reduce the water conductivity after the membrane.

What is included in the product package?

The product is sold as a package containing 1 liter of Amberlite MB20 resin.

Is Amberlite MB20 the same as MB400?

Amberlite MB20 is equivalent to Purolite's MB400 resin, making it a comparable solution for applications requiring water demineralization.

What does demineralization efficiency depend on?

The efficiency of the bed mainly depends on the incoming water parameters and the flow rate. The better the operating conditions are matched, the easier it is to achieve very low final water conductivity.
